Tea Party Attendees at CPAC attempt to Incite Riot, One Arrested at Washington Rally

Washington, DC (Feb 10) – AFL-CIO Union delegates arrived at the Marriott in Washington, DC this morning, protesting the actions of the ultra-conservative CPAC members inclusive of union-busting laws passed in several states since last Gubernatorial elections.
The protest grew by several hundred as, marchers from the Occupy Wall Street Washington affiliation arrived en masse. The group stage an “occupation” outside the event erected tents as a show of presence.
Marriot officials alongside Metro DC Police officers kept a large group of “occupiers” from entering today’s CPAC conference although, the group stated they had cash to pay to join in the event. The group simply was unwanted inside the Marriott facility.
Throngs of CPAC members converged outside their meeting to stage a counter-protest, all ordered to return to the conference, leave the property, or face arrest alongside protesters Marriott officials stated were, trespassing. All media, protesters, non-registered guests, and conference attendees were ordered off the lawns, walkways, and thoroughfares of the hotel or face arrest.
The groups returned to the CPAC conference around 5pm E.S.T. only to be met by a group of Tea Party members, which were attempting to incite the group into a confrontation. Marriott officials with assistance from Metro Police immediately informed the Tea baggers to return to the hotel or face eviction. The group after shouting and chanting several hate-biased slogans at members of the protest left the scene. Tea Party “rallies” have been the scene of violent attacks, and video-recorded hate-crimes in the past.
During the chaos, a group of about 60 protesters slipped past the security lines, and converged on the hotels front entrance. Police quickly converged on the crowd following a shoving match between the group, CPAC members, and Marriott officials. CPAC members continuing to attempt to escalate the situation, chanted hate slogans, and biased remarks at the crowd of protesters.
A credentialed TeaPAC member with the media team, was arrested for assaulting a police officer, no other arrests were reported at the time of this writing.
